Shymkent (Kazakhstan), August 30 (QNA) - The Qatari shooting team won the silver medal in the double trap event at the conclusion of the 16th Asian Shooting Championship held in the city of Shymkent, Kazakhstan, over two weeks with wide participation from various Asian national teams.

The Qatari trio, Mohammed Al Rumaihi, Saeed Abu Sharib, and Rashid Al Athba, claimed the silver medal in the double trap after a strong competition with shooters from Kazakhstan, India, and Uzbekistan.

The Qatari shooters scored a total of 266 targets over four rounds, with standout performance from Mohammed Al Rumaihi, who ranked sixth individually. Kazakhstan won the gold medal, while India took the bronze.

By the end of the championship, the Qatari team raised its tally to seven colored medals. These included a silver in the women’s trap event by Ray Bassil, a bronze in the men’s team trap event by Mohammed Al Rumaihi, Saeed Abu Sharib, and Angelo Scalzoni, a bronze in the mixed moving target rifle event (20+20) by Amal Mahmoud, a bronze in the men’s individual skeet by Ali Ahmed Al Ishaq, a bronze in the men’s team skeet by Mohammed Al Kuwari, Rashid Saleh Al Athba, and Ali Ahmed Al Ishaq, and a bronze in the mixed skeet event by Ali Al Ishaq and Sarah Ghulam.

Finally, the silver in the double trap was won by Mohammed Al Rumaihi, Saeed Abu Sharib, and Rashid Al Athba.

The Qatari delegation was headed by Ahmed Al Kuwari and included team manager Nawal Al Sulaiti and around 32 male and female shooters.

The championship featured four events: pistol, rifle, skeet, and trap.

The Qatari delegation participating in the double trap event will return to Doha tomorrow, Sunday.

Secretary-General of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti expressed his happiness with the great achievement made by the Qatari shooters, winning seven colored medals during their participation in the 16th Asian Shooting Championship held in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, over two weeks.

In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Al Sulaiti said that this achievement was made possible thanks to the support of the wise leadership and the Qatar Olympic Committee, and is the result of continuous effort and strategic planning by the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association.

He added that this number of medals would not have been achieved without the strong will and high focus shown by their champions, who delivered exceptional performances in highly competitive events attended by elite shooters from across Asia. Every name that contributed to this glory deserves their sincere appreciation and salute.

He concluded his statement by stressing that this achievement is only a starting point toward broader horizons and higher ambitions, promising to continue working diligently to develop this sport and raise Qatar’s name high in all international forums.

He added that they also extend their thanks to the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) for its continuous support, to their ambassador shooters for their determination, and to the accompanying administrative and technical staff for their dedication. (QNA)
