Iran Says 13 Militants Killed in Southeastern Security Operation
Tehran, August 27 (QNA) - Iranian security forces took out 13 militants today in operations conducted in the southeastern part of the country.
The deceased belonged to a group suspected of involvement in a deadly attack on police forces. Additional suspects were arrested during security operations in the cities of Iranshahr, Khash, and Saravan in the restive Sistan-Baluchestan province along the border with Afghanistan and Pakistan, according to Iranian state television, citing a statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
IRGC commander Hassan Mortazavi said one security officer was killed and another injured during the operation. He added that a civilian who had been kidnapped was released and returned to their family.
Last week, Tehran authorities announced that five police personnel were killed in an attack in Sistan-Baluchestan province, prior to confirming the killing of another six militants in a separate attack in the same region last Saturday. (QNA)
