Ukraine Announces Targeting of Oil Refinery in Samara Region
Kyiv, August 15 (QNA) - Ukraine announced Friday that it had targeted the Syzran oil refinery in the Samara region, a port on the Caspian Sea, and a cargo ship in the Astrakhan region of Russia.
The Ukrainian military said in a statement on Telegram Friday that it attacked with missiles and drones deep inside Russian territories, targeting oil refineries and "storage facilities."
It noted that a fire broke out and explosions were recorded at the Syzran refinery, which it said produces various types of fuel and is one of the largest refineries owned by Rosneft.
The governor of the Samara region said that a Ukrainian drone attack caused a fire at an unspecified "industrial facility," noting that the fire was quickly extinguished.
The Russian Defense Ministry also said earlier Friday that its air defenses had shot down 53 Ukrainian drones over nine regions in the southwest of the country.
The Ukrainian army repeatedly asserts that its attacks deep inside Russia aim to weaken Moscow's ability to continue the all-out war it launched in February 2022. (QNA)
