Doha, July 30 (QNA) - The international federation of motorcycling (FIM) announced Wednesday the calendar for the 2026 FIM MotoGP World Championship, which will feature 22 rounds across five continents in its 78th edition, reaffirming its position as one of the world's most prestigious sporting events.

The FIM has decided that the fourth round of the championship will be held at the Lusail International Circuit in Doha from Apr. 10-12. This is part of the ongoing strategic cooperation between the FIM and the Qatari circuit, which is hosting the MotoGP Qatar Airways Grand Prix for the 22nd consecutive year since joining the world championship in 2004.

The new season will kick off at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand, and conclude at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain.

The Lusail International Circuit is one of the world's most prominent venues for MotoGP racing, thanks to its staging the only full night race of the season under its tracks' legendary lights, which is considered one of the most exciting and popular events.

The Qatari round will also feature the Saturday Sprint Race in 2026, adding an exceptional competitive dimension and enhancing the chances of securing crucial points in the drivers' standings.

The 2025 edition of the Qatari round witnessed outstanding performances, with Marc Marquez of the Ducati Lenovo Team taking the lead, Francesco Bagnaia finishing second, and Franco Morbidelli of the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team finishing third.

The return of the Brazilian Grand Prix to the calendar is a major event, with Goiania the second round for the first time in years, further strengthening the championship's global presence in South America.

As the season approaches its start, the Lusail Circuit is preparing to welcome the world championship's stars, continuing its pivotal role in enhancing Qatar's position as a leading motorsports destination and providing a unique experience for fans and participating teams. (QNA)
