London, July 9 (QNA) - Poland's Iga Swiatek, ranked eighth in the world, qualified for the Wimbledon semifinals for the first time in her professional career after defeating Russia's Ludmila Samsonova, ranked nineteenth in the world, in straight sets today in the quarterfinals of the third Grand Slam tournament.

Swiatek faced no difficulties in prevailing in the match, winning 6-2, 7-5, to advance to her third Grand Slam semifinal this season, having also reached the semifinals at the Australian Open, the US Open, and Roland Garros.

This is Swiatek's fifth victory over Samsonova in their five previous meetings.

Swiatek will face Swiss Belinda Bencic, the 35th seed and 2020 Tokyo Olympic champion, in the semifinals.

Bencic defeated fellow Russian Mira Andreeva, the 7th seed, in straight sets. (QNA)
