Palestine Foreign Ministry Embraces Upgrading ILO Status to Non-member Observer State
Ramallah, June 06 (QNA) - The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday welcomed the International Labor Organization (ILO)'s resolution elevating Palestine to a non-member observer state despite the Israeli occupation's attempts to obstruct its adoption.
A ministry statement said the move came after years of diplomatic efforts by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Mission of the State of Palestine to the United Nations Office in Geneva, in cooperation and coordination with relevant parties.
The vote resulted in a clear majority of 386 votes in favor of the resolution, 15 against, and 42 abstentions.
The statement emphasized that this resolution grants Palestine expanded observer rights in the ILO, raising its status to non-member observer state, in line with its status in the United Nations and UN General Assembly Resolution ES-10/23 of May 2024.
The resolution balances the State of Palestine's status in the ILO with its membership in other UN agencies and organizations, such as UNESCO and the World Health Organization, read the statement. (QNA)
