MIA Showcases Film Screenings Spotlighting Social Scenes in Argentina, Chile
Doha, May 06 (QNA) - The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) is hosting a series of film screenings titled 'Social Scenes' from May 5 to May 10, 2025, as part of Qatar Museums’ Years of Culture Initiative.
Organized by the Doha Film Institute (DFI), the screenings shine a spotlight on contemporary films from Argentina and Chile, particularly the past five years' masterpieces that offer new insights into the advanced social and political scenes in those two nations.
The event, held as part of the Qatar-Argentina-Chile Cultural Year Activities, revolves around films on family, identity, memory, and national history through the selected collection, thereby laying a solid groundwork for these scenes.
The film series includes two DFI-supported films from Chile: Chile '76 (1976), screened at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, directed by Chilean filmmaker Manuela Martelli, and The Eternal Memory (La Memoria Infinita), directed by Maite Alberdi, which is showing this evening.
This film tells a poignant story, reflecting on dignity, memory, and the choices we make about what to remember and what to forget, as well as the role of personal and national history in shaping identities.
In addition, the series includes three films from Argentina: Puan, directed by Maria Alche and Benjamin Naishtat, Joel, directed by Carlos Sorin, and The Dog That Didn't Sleep (El Perro Que No Calla), directed by Ana Katz. (QNA)
