Qatari Team Win Men's Title in Round 3 of FIBA 3x3 Nations League
Doha, May 30 (QNA) - The Qatari national team won the men's title in Round 3 of the FIBA 3x3 Nations League Under 23 Asia-Pacific, organized by the Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) until June 3 at the Federation Hall in Al Gharafa.
Twelve teams are participating in the men's and women's categories.
The Qatari team, comprising Hamad Yassin Ismail Musa, Zain Al Din Badri, Nizar Mahmoud, Ahmed Saeed Mohammed, and Mubarak Jama, won the title after defeating New Zealand, the winners of the first and second rounds, 16-12 in the final match.
The team put on a strong performance in this round, beginning with a 21-17 victory over Chinese Taipei, followed by a 22-10 victory over Indonesia in Group B.
By winning the third round, the Qatari team collected 260 points, having finished second in the first and second rounds. New Zealand's tally reached 280 points, having been crowned champions of the first and second rounds.
Following the conclusion of the round, Abdullah Sultan Al Jaber, a member of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Basketball Association, crowned the Qatari team as the champions of the third round.
In the women's competition, the New Zealand team pulled off a major upset by winning the third round with a 20-13 victory over Chinese Taipei.
Following the final match, Talal Saad Al Mughaiseeb, the tournament director, crowned the champion, who claimed their first title in the competition.
Meanwhile, the Philippines team were crowned champions of the first and second rounds, defeating Chinese Taipei.
The Qatari women's national team, comprising Salha Ismail, Mona Abdel Moneim, Sama Jasser, and Lamees Jamal, lost their third-round match against Chinese Taipei 21-6, after losing to Singapore 21-5 in Group B.
The current edition serves as a qualifying round for the FIBA U23 3x3 Basketball World Cup.
The men's and women's champions and the top-scoring team qualify for the tournament, which will be held in Xiong'an, China, from September 17 to 21.
Twelve teams will participate, including six men's and six women's teams: Qatar (host), New Zealand, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Chinese Taipei.(QNA)
