Ramallah, May 20 (QNA) - The Palestinian National Council (PNC) welcomed on Tuesday the joint statement issued by the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, and Canada, which called for an end to the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, lifting the unjust siege, and recognizing the Palestinian people's right to establish their independent state.

The statement also hinted at the possibility of imposing sanctions on the occupation government for its refusal to allow essential humanitarian aid into the besieged Gaza Strip.

In a statement, Speaker of the Palestinian National Council Rawhi Fattouh said that this international stance represents a significant development toward holding Israel accountable for the crimes and grave violations it commits against the Palestinian people, which amount to genocide due to systematic starvation, widespread destruction of infrastructure, and repeated targeting of civilians, particularly women and children, along with the policy of collective punishment of over two million people.

Fattouh also praised the three leaders' condemnation of the racist and inciting rhetoric by some Israeli government members and their threats of the forced displacement of Palestinians, stressing that such policies violate international humanitarian law and amount to crimes against humanity, which require international accountability.

He noted that the right-wing occupation government is increasingly isolated from the international stage, with a growing global rejection of its aggressive and extremist policies, reflecting a tangible shift in international positions toward accountability and consequences.

Fattouh expressed appreciation for the diplomatic efforts made by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, stressing that any truce must be accompanied by a serious political process leading to the full lifting of the siege, ending the occupation, and enabling the Palestinian people to exercise their legitimate right to self-determination, freedom, and independence.

Concluding the statement, the Speaker of the Palestinian National Council affirmed that the Palestinian people reject all forms of displacement and remain committed to their inalienable national rights, emphasizing that the continuation of occupation and its crimes requires a more courageous and effective international stance.
