Head of Libya's Government of National Unity Announces New Phase in Regaining State Sovereignty
Tripoli, May 18 (QNA) - The head of Libya's Government of National Unity Abdul Hamid Dbaiba said that his country has begun a new and decisive phase in the process of regaining its sovereignty from the grip of armed militias.
He stressed that the state will no longer allow chaos to continue or for outlaw groups to control the fate of Libyans, according to the Libyan news agency (LANA).
In a televised address on Saturday night, he said that he deliberately delayed making statements about the security situation to avoid any misinterpretation that could be used to ignite strife. He added that his government encountered a difficult reality upon assuming office.
Dbaiba spoke about the security operation carried out in the Abu Salim area, stating that it was a pivotal turning point in the imposition of state authority.
Addressing the people of Abu Salim, Dbaiba said, "Injustice has been lifted from you, and I will support this area more than ever."
He also explained that the government issued several important decisions immediately after the operation, most notably the appointment of a new head of the Internal Security Service, guarantees that no injustice or abuses would be tolerated, and the dissolution of the Immigration Service.
Head of Libya's Government of National Unity emphasized that he has received broad support from the international community to end the militias' power.
Dbaiba concluded his remarks by emphasizing that Libyans are beginning to see "a real glimmer of hope" and the beginning of a state of law and institutions. (QNA)
