President of 66th UNGA to QNA: US President's Visit Underscores Strength of Qatar-US Strategic Relationship
Doha, May 14 (QNA) - HE President of the 66th Session of the United Nations General Assembly and Former High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, Nassir Abdulaziz Al Nasser, has affirmed that the visit of HE the President of the friendly United States of America, Donald Trump, to the State of Qatar is the most consequential milestone, as it comes at a critical juncture for the region and the world. He underscored the depth of the strategic relationship between the two countries.
The visit confirms the strength of the bilateral strategic relationship and the State of Qatar's advanced stature under the prudent leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on the regional and global stages, particularly in the areas of politics, energy, and security, HE Al Nasser underlined.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), His Excellency added that the US President's visit to Doha carries strong implications for the strategic partnership between the two countries, noting that this is the US President's first visit to the region since assuming office, and includes Saudi Arabia and the UAE, alongside Qatar, reflecting the importance of the Gulf region in the equation of international security and stability.
His Excellency explained that the Qatar-US relationship is deep, wide-ranging, and includes political, economic, security, educational, and health aspects. The State of Qatar is a reliable partner for the United States and has offered numerous regional and global initiatives that have contributed to enhancing global peace and security, HE Al Nasser pointed out.
His Excellency stressed that the Gulf region, and Qatar in particular, is one of the most important energy producers in the world, thereby giving the nation a pivotal role in ensuring the stability of the global energy market. Subsequently, he said, coordination with the United States of America in this field is one of the pillars of the strategic relationship between the two countries.
The visit comes amid colossal regional challenges, including the situation in Syria, the Palestinian cause, and the Iranian nuclear issue, His Excellency highlighted, noting that Qatar has played a leading role in supporting the people of Syria during their crisis and has been the only Arab nation that continued its political and humanitarian support.
HE Al Nasser hoped that the visit would help propel efforts toward a just and comprehensive political resolution to the Syrian crisis, one that guarantees the country's unity and stability and restores Syria's natural role in the region. He underlined that Syria's stability would have a positive ripple effect across neighboring states and the broader region.
Regarding the relationship with Iran, HE Al Nasser emphasized that the State of Qatar believes in dialogue as a vehicle for dispute resolution, stressing that Iran is a neighboring and friendly country, and that Qatar's foreign policy has always been founded on wisdom, mediation, and preventive diplomacy in the quest to spare the region from further tensions and conflicts.
