Seoul, April 29 (QNA) - Firefighters in South Korea were able to contain a major wildfire on Mount Hamji, in the southeast.

Yonhap News Agency quoted Korea Forest Service as saying that the fire started in the city of Daegu, about 230 kilometers southeast of Seoul on Monday, and quickly spread to neighboring villages due to strong winds.

The blaze was contained to a depth of 60 percent after having scorched 260 hectares of forest, the equivalent of 364 football fields.

No casualties were reported, but more than 2,000 people were displaced.

Officials said that two night helicopters and 1,515 personnel responded overnight to fight the flames and build firebreaks. (QNA)
