Doha, April 27 (QNA) - The Ministry of Culture announced on Sunday the events of the 34th Doha International Book Fair, to take place at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center from May 8 to 17, with the State of Palestine as the guest of honor.

This year's book fair will feature 522 publishing houses and entities from 43 countries, including 11 publishers from Palestine, Syria's Halbouni Books, as well as American and British publishing houses making their debuts at the Doha International Book Fair.

Offering around 166,000 titles, the book fair will also see wider participation from ministries, government and private institutions, as well as diplomatic missions in the country.

On the sidelines of the book fair, a diverse range of cultural and artistic events and activities will be held, including seminars, lectures, and workshops.

The Ministry of Culture will also launch the Doha International Book Fair award for publishers and authors, which will include several categories: outstanding publisher (Local and International), outstanding children's book publisher (Local and International), creative writer, and young Qatari writer.

The fair pays special attention to children and young readers, allocating a large space for leading children's book publishers, as well as organizing a rich selection of interactive activities to showcase children's talents and encourage reading.

On this occasion, Assistant Undersecretary for Cultural Affairs at the Ministry of Culture Dr. Ghanem bin Mubarak Al Ali Al Maadheed said that the Doha International Book Fair, with its broad local, Arab, and international participation, continues its pioneering mission, promoting culture, science, and knowledge.

Dr. Al Maadheed added that this aligns with the Ministry's vision to support writing, publishing, creativity, and foster a culture of reading in society, while providing wider opportunities to showcase the work of authors and publishing houses across various fields.

He said that this year's book fair promises an exceptional edition in terms of the volume of publications, the range of titles, and the extensive participation from Qatar and beyond, alongside the event program.

The Assistant Undersecretary for Cultural Affairs at the Ministry of Culture noted that the event serves as a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, form fruitful partnerships, and consolidate culture in Qatar and the region.

The Ministry of Culture's pavilion will display a wide range of books by Qatari authors alongside Ministry publications. The pavilion will also unveil special new releases and feature a digital printer printing live.

A variety of children's events, performances, and workshops will accompany the book fair, including a stage for plays and cultural performances for children. (QNA)
