Doha, April 02 (QNA) - The Organizing Committee of the West Asian Athletics Clubs Championship announced Wednesday that 400 athletes from 13 countries will participate in the championship, which will be held at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium, Qatar Sports Club, from April 7 to April 10.
During a press conference, the Committee emphasized that the high number of participating athletes signifies strong competition and raises the profile of athletics in the region. It also hints at the emergence of new champions in track and field events.
Tournament Director Khalid Al Suwaidi confirmed that preparations have been completed to welcome delegations and provide all necessary training facilities for athletes ahead of the championship. He expressed optimism about delivering a successful edition both organizationally and technically.
Al Suwaidi added that planning for the event began after the Qatar Athletics Federation entrusted the organization and supervision to Al Ahli Sports Club. In coordination with relevant entities, the Committee prepared officials' rooms, anti-doping facilities, and technical arrangements for referees and race-call areas.
Al Suwaidi also noted that this edition has been officially recognized by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and categorized as an "E-level" event on the global competition calendar. This ensures the application of precise international standards that preserve athletes' records in races and competitions.
He revealed that Qatari Olympic and world champion high jumper Mutaz Barshim will participate in the championship and lead the opening ceremony. Al Suwaidi highlighted that Barshim's involvement adds significant technical and competitive value to the championship and motivates athletes to showcase their best performances.

The Organizing Committee's Marketing Director Rashid Al Khayarin noted that Qatar's second hosting of the championship will achieve further success in marketing.
He highlighted the collaboration between the Organizing Committee and various entities in Doha, resulting in the presence of prominent sponsorship brands at the stadium.
