Egyptian, US Foreign Ministers Discuss Gaza Situation in Phone Call
Cairo, December 9 (QNA) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelaaty discussed regional developments, particularly the situation in the Gaza Strip, with his US counterpart Marco Rubio in a phone call on Tuesday.
They also discussed ongoing efforts to implement US President Donald Trump's peace plan and solidify the Sharm El Sheikh peace agreement, as well as ways to bolster the strategic partnership between the two countries.
In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry reported that Abdelaaty emphasized the need for concerted international efforts to ensure the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2,803 and the swift formation of the international stabilization force in Gaza to assume its responsibilities and duties.
He also stressed the importance of proceeding with the formation of the Palestinian technocratic committee to administer the Gaza Strip and the necessity of moving to the second phase of the Sharm El Sheikh peace agreement.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister further highlighted the importance of ensuring the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, given the deteriorating humanitarian situation and the urgent need to rebuild the Strip's infrastructure to meet pressing humanitarian needs.
Regarding the situation in Sudan, Abdelaaty reaffirmed Egypt's unwavering support for Sudan's unity, stability, and national institutions. He reviewed the outcomes of his recent visit to Khartoum on November 11th and stressed the need for unified international and regional efforts to advance de-escalation and achieve a ceasefire, within the framework of the Quartet's efforts, and to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.
Concerning developments in Lebanon, the Egyptian Foreign Minister briefed his US counterpart on the results of his recent visit to Beirut on November 26th to support Lebanon and discuss ways to reduce tensions and enhance stability.
He reiterated Egypt's steadfast support for Lebanon's unity, sovereignty, security, and stability.
With regard to Egyptian water security, Abdelaaty emphasized the importance of cooperation in accordance with international law to safeguard the interests of all Nile Basin countries.
He affirmed Egypt's rejection of unilateral actions that violate international law in the Eastern Nile Basin, noting that Egypt will take all necessary measures, consistent with international law, to protect its water security. (QNA)
