Doha, December 04 (QNA) - In the stands of Lusail Stadium, where more than 45,000 fans sat together, loud cheers and applause filled the air as both national anthems were played. The match between Palestine and Tunisia carried the banner of sportsmanship above all else, in the second-round fixtures of Group A at the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025.

The crowd was adorned with Palestinian scarves, and the stadium displayed a massive flag (around twenty meters long) combining the Palestinian and Tunisian flags. Cheers for both teams echoed from the very start of the match and throughout the playing of the national anthems.

Despite Tunisia taking an early lead in the 16th minute through Omar Layouni, the festive atmosphere and sportsmanship in the stands remained ideal. Every supporter cheered joyfully for their team’s performance, and all fans reacted to the beauty of the game on the pitch.

Sportsmanship was equally present on the field itself. One notable moment came when Palestine’s captain, Musab Al Battat, deliberately kicked the ball out of play to allow medical treatment for Tunisia’s Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane.

Al Battat’s gesture was met with loud applause and great appreciation from Tunisian players and the packed stands. The same spirit was shown when Tunisia’s Yassine Meriah returned the ball to the Palestinian team shortly after.

Sportsmanship shone brightly throughout the match. After Tunisia’s first goal, the stadium erupted with Tunisian flags and chants, while Palestinian flags waved below. The same scene was repeated after Tunisia’s second goal.

Likewise, when Palestine scored their first goal, the stadium burst with Palestinian flags and cheers, mirrored again when they scored the equalizer.

After the final whistle, fans applauded both teams for the quality of football they displayed. Palestinian supporters in particular celebrated their team’s comeback to secure a draw after being two goals down.

Following the result, one that gave Palestine an advantage in the race for qualification and left Tunisia with only slim hopes, reactions among fans of both teams continued to reflect brotherhood and sportsmanship.

Supporters emphasized that the Palestinian and Tunisian peoples are brothers, and that football tournaments can strengthen ties between nations. They considered matches like this an opportunity to show solidarity with the Palestinian cause. (QNA)
