US Postpones Tariffs on Chinese Chips Until 2027
Washington, December 23 (QNA) - The administration of US President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that it is postponing tariffs on Chinese semiconductor imports until June 2027.
The administration stated that it will announce the tariff rate at least 30 days before it is to be implemented. This measure comes after a year-long investigation into Chinese chip imports to the US, which was initiated by the administration of former President Joe Biden.
US Trade Representative Jameson Greer said, "China's targeting of the semiconductor industry for dominance is unreasonable and burdens or restricts US commerce and thus is actionable."
This move is the latest in Trump's efforts to ease tensions with Beijing, in response to Chinese restrictions on exports of critical minerals relied upon by global technology companies and controlled by China.
As part of negotiations with Beijing to postpone those restrictions, Trump rolled back a rule that limited US technology exports to units of Chinese companies already on the blacklist. (QNA)
