Qatar Wins Bid to Host International Junior Science Olympiad 2028
Doha, December 02 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has won the right to host the 2028 International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO), after approving Doha as the headquarters for the next edition, in recognition of its organizational capabilities and leadership in hosting global scientific events.
This victory came after a presentation by Assistant Director of the Educational Guidance Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) and General Coordinator of the Olympiads Fatima Ahmed Al Rashed, in which she reviewed the success of the State of Qatar in hosting the 2019 edition with the participation of more than 70 countries, as it was the first Arab country to host this event.
The presentation also highlighted the rapid development in educational and research infrastructure, and the commitment to sustainability standards, which has contributed to strengthening Qatar's position as an international center for scientific, sporting and economic events.
In her remarks, the General Coordinator of the Olympiads affirmed that the State of Qatar possesses a solid organizational legacy thanks to hosting several major events, including the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), and the Arab Mathematics Olympiad 2024. She said that Qatar promises the IJSO to present an exceptional edition in 2028; one that preserves and enhances the successful legacy, and inspires young people towards embracing science.
She indicated that the vision presented was consistent with the principles of the WISE Summit, which Doha recently hosted under the slogan: "Humanity.io: Human Values at the Heart of Education," stressing the importance of harnessing scientific and technological progress to serve humanity and its values.
The 2028 edition is expected to attract hundreds of participants from more than 70 countries, enhancing Qatar's position as a global platform to support scientific and research talent, in line with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 to develop human capital and improve the education system.
