Palestinian Government Calls for Accelerated Emergency Relief Response in Gaza
Ramallah, December 16 (QNA) - The Palestinian government on Tuesday called for an international action to deliver urgent humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and to step up pressure to allow the entry of winter supplies and economic recovery requirements, including mobile housing units, medical supplies, and materials needed to repair water networks and essential infrastructure.
This call came during a meeting of the Palestinian Cabinet, as the death toll in Gaza continues to rise following the impact of a deep winter storm that caused widespread damage, destroyed displacement tents, and led to deaths from extreme cold, the latest being the death of an infant reported today due to a severe drop in temperature.
In a related development, the Palestinian government instructed relevant authorities to assess the needs of Bedouin communities facing escalating attacks by settler groups and to continue providing resilience support, including livestock feed and agricultural inputs, in addition to financial assistance extended by the government and its partners to compensate affected families.
The government also welcomed the adoption by the UN General Assembly of two resolutions affirming the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the right to self-determination and permanent sovereignty over their land and natural resources. It called for these resolutions to be translated into concrete international measures to halt settlement expansion, curb rising settler violence and home demolitions, and safeguard the two-state solution, which enjoys broad international support and is enshrined in international legitimacy resolutions.
