COSP11 Reviews Progress in Implementing Convention's Provisions
Doha, December 16 (QNA) - The States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption reviewed the progress made in implementing the Convention's provisions and discussed key shared challenges on day 2 of the 11th session of the Confernce of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (COSP11), with the session chaired by HE Hamad bin Nasser Al Misnad, the President of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority and the President of the current session.
Heads of delegations discussed national and regional needs in the fight against corruption, exchanged best practices and modern oversight tools, and explored ways to build strategic partnerships between countries and international organizations and bodies to strengthen integrity and transparency frameworks.
Participants emphasized the importance of international cooperation and the exchange of expertise as essential elements for enhancing the effectiveness of the Convention and achieving tangible results, highlighting efforts to strengthen the rule of law and combat corruption, and reviewing comprehensive national plans and strategies aimed at improving governance and promoting transparency and accountability in public and private institutions.
The conference focused on several key topics, including: the use of emerging technologies in preventing and combating corruption, enhancing the protection of children and youth from corruption-related abuses, increasing transparency in the financing of political parties and election campaigns, and examining the role of corruption in facilitating other crimes, such as migrant smuggling and environmental crimes.
It highlighted practical innovations in the fight against corruption, including the use of artificial intelligence in analyzing financial data and monitoring suspicious cash flows, developing advanced risk assessment systems, and strengthening oversight mechanisms to support countries' ability to prevent complex economic crimes before they occur.
The conference saw wide participation, including government representatives, international and regional organizations, civil society, the private sector, academia, and active youth participation. The Conference of the States Parties is the highest-level political forum on combating corruption under the auspices of the United Nations. (QNA)
