QNA Participates with Collection of Rare Photographs at Music Museum in Darb Al Saai
Doha, December 15 (QNA) - Qatar News Agency (QNA) is participating in the activities of Darb Al Saai through a dedicated pavilion inside the Music Museum, where it is showcasing for the first time a selected collection of rare archival musical photographs. These images document concerts and artistic events held in the State of Qatar across different periods of time, some of which date back to the last century.
The participation includes a set of documentary photographs highlighting the presence of music at national and social occasions, reflecting aspects of the history of the musical movement in Qatar. This constitutes a qualitative addition to the content of the Music Museum and enriches visitors’ experience.
QNA’s participation has attracted significant interest from visitors to Darb Al Saai, given the historical and documentary value of the displayed photographs and their role as a window into an artistic and cultural memory captured by media over the decades.
This participation comes as part of QNA’s commitment to highlighting its media archive, shedding light on the role of photography in documenting the cultural and artistic scene in the country, and contributing to the preservation of cultural heritage and its transmission to future generations, within the framework of Darb Al Saai events that celebrate Qatari national identity.
Director of the Music Affairs Center at the Ministry of Culture Khalid Al Salem said that cooperation with QNA and its participation through a collection of photographs in the Music Museum at Darb Al Saai represents a valuable addition that contributes to documenting the country’s cultural and musical memory.
Al Salem explained that a photograph is not merely a visual record, but a living witness to a cultural moment and a bridge linking generations to the history of sound, instruments, and the creative scene that shaped the collective consciousness of society. He noted that this cooperation reflects the integration of roles between cultural and media institutions in preserving the national heritage and presenting it in a contemporary manner befitting its value.
He affirmed that the Music Museum at Darb Al Saai seeks to be a vibrant space for musical storytelling, and that QNA’s participation with this rich visual presence supports the museum’s mission of conveying the full story through sound, image, and an unforgettable memory.
Among the prominent displayed photos are a photograph of the musical concert by the European Group Orchestra at the Sheraton Hotel dated Dec.5, 1994; a photo of a music class for students of Al-Amal Institute in 1985; a Samr (evening gathering) concert at Al Koot Fort on the occasion of the Feb. 22 anniversary; a photograph from the opening of the Doha Theater Festival performances in 1990; a photo of the opening of the Theater Education Exhibition in 1988; the first performance of the Qatari Folk Arts Troupe at Gulf Cinema Theater in 1980; photos of the Qatari Military Band at Doha International Airport in the 1980s; and the opening of the Qatar National Theater in Feb. 1982.
