Outgoing CoSP President Highlights Global Anti-Corruption Progress at Doha Conference
Doha, December 15 (QNA) - The outgoing president of the 10th session of the Conference of the States Parties (CoSP) to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), has described the conference as a vital platform for advancing the global fight against corruption.
Speaking at the opening session of the 11th conference in Doha, Christine Cline said that focusing on the provisions of the convention would help deliver tangible outcomes. She noted that a huge amount of work had been achieved over the past two years, praising all those who contributed to the success of the previous session.
Cline said she had witnessed a genuine shift driven by determination and cooperation, highlighting that the conference brings together practitioners including investigators, prosecutors, central authorities and financial intelligence units.
She stressed that the conference provides an important forum for addressing social, economic and political issues, with its primary benefit being the encouragement of states to fulfil their obligations under the convention and to strengthen cooperation on cross-border anti-corruption cases.
Emphasising the need to facilitate cooperation among law enforcement bodies, she said joint efforts to target the proceeds of crime and money laundering — described as the lifeblood of organised crime and other illicit activities — could lead to real, measurable impact.
Cline added that the UN Convention against Corruption offers all States Parties a comprehensive framework to tackle illicit financial flows, underlining the importance of using this framework effectively.
Concluding her remarks, Cline said she was optimistic as she handed over the presidency of the conference to Qatar, expressing her hope for close cooperation with Qatar and all participating states to continue advancing this important work. (QNA)
