Thai PM Dissolves Parliament Ahead of Early 2026 Elections
Bangkok, December 12 (QNA) - Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced the dissolution of parliament Friday, paving the way for new elections early next year.
In a Facebook post, Charnvirakul said the move aims to return power to the people.
The dissolution was approved by King Maha Vajiralongkorn and takes effect immediately.
Elections are expected within 45 to 60 days of the royal endorsement. Until then, the caretaker government will operate with limited powers, excluding budget approvals.
Charnvirakul, who became prime minister three months ago with backing from the main opposition party, succeeded Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who stepped down before completing her first year in office.
He had pledged to dissolve parliament within four months and hold a referendum on drafting a new constitution via an elected assembly. (QNA)
