Qatari Play Wins Best Overall Performance Award at Sharm El Sheikh Youth Theatre Festival
Cairo, December 1 (QNA) - The Qatari play "The Shoe Shiner" won the Best Overall Performance award in the Monodrama competition at the 10th Sharm El Sheikh International Youth Theatre Festival, which concluded yesterday.
Authored by Qatar's Dr. Khaled Al Jaber, the play explores the suffering of contemporary Arabs amidst political and social transformations through a single character. This character narrates an internal conflict with multiple voices and meanings, reflecting a state of alienation and futility.
The play begins with the character of a seemingly simple shoe shiner who becomes an observer of the people around him through their shoes. Each shoe becomes a key to a story and a tragedy, aiming to bring the text closer to themes of alienation, defeat, and escape from war, while revisiting questions of identity and belonging in both direct and indirect ways.
