MECC Issues Report on Environmental Sector Achievements During Q3 2025
Doha, November 04 (QNA) - The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) issued a report on the environmental sector's achievements in the third quarter of 2025.
It revealed concrete breakthroughs in environmental performance indicators and intensified regulatory, awareness and organizational efforts, all within the MECC's strategy aimed at achieving environmental sustainability in alignment with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.
The report showed that the various departments in the environmental sector executed 1,306 inspection and field visits, 6,319 customs inspections, released 6,202 customs declarations, issued 4,561 environmental permits and licenses, analyzed 4,523 laboratory samples, and prepared 932 reports, studies and audits.
During the third quarter, the sector also engaged in 30 awareness events, followed up on 26 environmental alerts, issued 69 warnings and corrective measures, and received 1,692 visitors.
According to the report, the Environmental Monitoring and Inspection Department carried out 449 inspection and field visits, collected 1,308 emergency water and sediment samples, conducted 735 seawater quality controls and performed 798 analyses under the Marine Environment Monitoring Programme.
It likewise gathered 3,402 samples under the Discharge Monitoring Programme, bringing the total analyses to 4,171 for the quarter. The department also prepared 454 studies, reports, and audits, executed 15 awareness events, issued 82 permits and licenses, and issued 15 warnings and corrective measures.
Regarding the Radiation Protection Department, it conducted 191 inspections and field visits, issued 507 permits and licenses, analyzed 337 laboratory samples, released 3,727 customs declarations post‑inspection, organized 33 workshops, issued 34 warnings and corrective measures, handled 5 environmental alerts, and received 120 visitors.
The Chemicals & Hazardous Waste Department conducted 297 inspections and field visits, issued 3,073 permits and licenses, conducted 2,592 customs inspections, released 2,475 customs declarations, organized 8 awareness events, analyzed 15 laboratory samples, and issued 20 warnings and corrective measures.
With respect to the Environmental Assessment & Permits Department, activities included 397 technical meetings, 369 inspection and field visits, 468 reports and environmental audits, issuance of 899 environmental permits and licenses, and service provisioning to 1,294 visitors.
Overall, the report embodies the MECC's approach of documenting and tracking national environmental performance indicators, enhancing transparency and regulatory and developmental effectiveness, and supporting the nation’s journey toward achieving sustainable environmental development that preserves natural resources for future generations.
