Doha, November 04 (QNA) - Under the title "A Call to Action," the Doha Political Declaration issued Tuesday by the Second World Summit for Social Development, held in Doha, identified 15 goals that will be given full priority during the next phase to create an economic, political, social, cultural and legal environment conducive to achieving social development for all and to serve as an integrated approach towards eliminating poverty in all its forms and dimensions.
In this regard, the countries participating in the Second World Summit for Social Development, Doha 2025, will commit to the following:
- Taking effective measures, including policies and programmes, to address the root causes of poverty and underlying causes of inequality, providing for the basic needs of all and increasing resilience for interconnected crises. These efforts should include the elimination of hunger and malnutrition; the provision of social protection, food security, education, livelihood, employment, decent work for all, clean water and sanitation, adequate shelter and reliable health systems; and participation in social and cultural life, with special priority given to the needs and rights of women and children and persons in vulnerable situations, who often bear the greatest burden of poverty.
- Reinforcing international development cooperation for developing countries' capacities to achieve poverty eradication as well as the necessary measures to close financing gaps for poverty eradication.
- Exploring opportunities to mobilize additional finance, both public and private, through official development assistance funded activities that are responsive to country needs and focused on long-term development and poverty eradication.
- Ensuring sustainable and equitable financing for social protection systems as one of the enablers for eradicating poverty, reducing inequality and fostering social inclusion, as well as investing in programs for poverty eradication.
- Integrating quality education as core component of poverty reduction strategies with focused efforts on access, equity and inclusion within a lifelong learning approach.
- Advancing the transition from the informal to the formal economy, including the formalization of micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises towards the eradication of poverty, creating decent jobs and catalyzing social integration.
- Strengthening social protection systems and reinforcing investment in measures, including social protection floors, and integrating financing of social protection systems and policies.
- Promoting the integration of child-sensitive policies and programs in national poverty eradication strategies, including social protection programs that deliver an integrated package of essential services.
- Developing and implementing multidimensional poverty measurements according to national plans, priorities and methodologies to better measure the various dimensions of poverty and the interactions among them.
- Recognizing that persons with disabilities continue to be disproportionately affected by multidimensional poverty and the need to enhance, inter alia, efforts to facilitate international trade of assistive technologies, in line with international trade agreements, to address inequalities experienced by persons with disabilities.
- Reaffirming the commitment contained in the Pact for the Future to urgently develop a framework of measures of progress on sustainable development.
- Fully and effectively implementing the mandate of the General Assembly resolution 78/322 on the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index.
- Strengthening investment in social development at national, as well as regional, and international levels including through enhanced international cooperation, South-South cooperation, and triangular cooperation.
- Recognizing that the social and solidarity economy can play a key role in eradicating poverty, promoting social inclusion and catalysing social transformation.
- Strengthening an inclusive approach to international cooperation and promoting innovative solutions and initiatives for poverty eradication, such as among others the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. (QNA)
