Cairo, November 26 (QNA) – The Arab Information Ministers Council, at the conclusion of its 55th regular session held Wednesday, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo, reaffirmed the necessity of continuing to support the Palestinian cause in all its political, humanitarian, and legal dimensions, foremost among them the issue of occupied Jerusalem.

In the resolutions issued at the conclusion of its proceedings, the Council urged Arab media outlets to continue their coverage of current developments in light of the ongoing Israeli violations of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the grave violations in the West Bank.

It also condemned the targeting of Palestinian journalists by Israeli forces in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.

Regarding the Media Code of Ethics, the Council emphasized the importance of promoting this code in accordance with the amendments introduced during the 163rd session of the Council of the League of Arab States on April 23rd.

It stressed the need to activate its provisions and promote it widely within the Arab media landscape, adhering to its principles based on integrity, objectivity, accuracy, credibility, and the consolidation of a culture of tolerance, while rejecting biased and discriminatory rhetoric and respecting the sovereign rights of member states.

The Council adopted the Arab Strategy for Media and Information Literacy and the Unified Arab Plan for Addressing Environmental Issues and Sustainable Development, in line with the Arab Vision 2045 adopted at the 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad in May 2025.

With regard to the Arab Media Action Plan Abroad, the Council emphasized the urgent need for the sound and comprehensive implementation of the plan's mechanisms and components, beginning with providing media support for the Palestinian cause, countering the Israeli narrative, promoting Arab cultural and civilizational identity, and confronting the phenomena of extremism and terrorism.

In this context, the Council tasked a team of experts with developing a comprehensive vision and timeframe for implementing the phased plan of the Arab Media Strategy for Combating Terrorism, in cooperation with Naif Arab University for Security Sciences.

The Council also called upon member states, organizations, and unions engaged in media activities to continue their efforts in implementing the Arab Media Roadmap for Sustainable Development.

The Council urged the working group, in cooperation with the Arab States Broadcasting Union, to expedite the preparation of a comprehensive Arab vision for negotiations with international media companies, in preparation for its presentation at the next session.

In line with the Council's focus on addressing specific media issues, including the situation of children in the Arab region, the Council approved the Arab Child Media Award, a joint initiative between the League of Arab States (Media and Communication Sector and Social Affairs Sector).

Furthermore, the Council approved granting observer status to both the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport.

This reflects the Council's commitment to engaging with media stakeholders in the Arab and Islamic world and strengthening cooperation with organizations and bodies engaged in media activities, with the aim of exchanging expertise and benefiting from their experiences, plans, and work programs in the media and communication field.

According to this decision, the Council of Arab Information Ministers will include (20) unions and organizations working in various fields that are of interest to news, production, programming, audio-visual work, and the formation of media frameworks. (QNA)
