Ashghal Resumes Work on South Meshaf Roads and Infrastructure Project
Doha, November 23 (QNA) - The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the resumption of construction on Packages 4 and 7 of the South Meshaf Roads and Infrastructure project, aimed at enhancing the road network and infrastructure services in the area to meet the needs of a growing population.
Engineer Mohamed Al Rumaihi, from Ashghal's Drainage Networks Operations Department, said the project is designed to serve 1,986 residential plots, providing integrated infrastructure services and road networks, improving traffic flow, connecting public facilities, and enhancing road safety through the installation of street lighting, signage, pedestrian paths, and bicycle lanes.
Package 4, located in Zone 91 in Al Wukair/South Meshaf, serves 522 plots and involves the construction of 23 km of roads, installation of 696 streetlight poles, provision of over 2,806 parking spaces, and 450 meters of pedestrian and bicycle paths.
In addition, the package includes the development of 21 km of sewer networks, 27 km of stormwater drainage systems, and 13 km of treated water pipelines.
Package 7, situated northwest of Al Janoub Stadium and west of the southern section of Doha Expressway, serves 1,464 plots and includes 25 km of roads, 839 streetlight poles, 3,030 parking spaces, and 2.5 km of pedestrian and bicycle paths, along with 24 km of sewer networks, 25 km of stormwater drainage networks, and 8 km of treated water networks.
Al Rumaihi said that current works involve site preparation, asphalt removal in certain areas, and deep excavations for stormwater and sewage pipelines. He highlighted that the project heavily relies on local materials, with 85% of the components sourced from Qatari manufacturers.
These include gabro, lighting poles, signage, drainage and sewer pipes, asphalt, precast manholes, concrete, and reinforcement steel, supporting Ashghal's Qualification initiative launched in 2017.
The South Meshaf project reflects Ashghal's commitment to developing sustainable, integrated infrastructure that improves mobility, supports population growth, and enhances the overall quality of life in the area. (QNA)
