Qatar Wins Two Golds at CISM Qatar 2025
Doha, November 22 (QNA) - Qatar captured two gold medals in the target accuracy events, team and individual, at the close of the 47th CISM World Military Parachuting Championship (CISM Qatar 2025), held at Umm Shkhoot Airport in Doha.
The competition brought together 320 male and female parachutists from 30 countries, who competed in three disciplines for men and women: four-way formation, style, and target accuracy.
In the men's team target accuracy event, Qatar's squad, Khalid Shajea, Abdulaziz Al Hajjaji, Mohammed Saeed Al Marri, Saleh Al Obaidli, and Mohammed Al Atas, won gold with 25 points.
They edged out the Czech Republic and Switzerland, who finished second and third respectively with the same score, on the basis of better attempts. Germany placed fourth with 27 points, followed by the United Arab Emirates with 31, and Slovenia with 34.
In the men's individual target accuracy, Qatar's Khalid Shajea claimed gold with five points, ahead of Germany's Robin Griesheimer, also on five points, while Qatar's Mohammed Saeed Al Marri took bronze with six.
China dominated the women's team target accuracy, winning gold with 66 points. France finished second with 84 points, and South Korea third with 112 points. In the women's individual event, China's Ying Miao won gold with seven points, France's Leocadie Ollivier De Pury took silver with 10, and China's Li Jianhong earned bronze with 11.
President of the Military Sports Association Maj. Gen. Dr. Yousef Desmal Al Kuwari, Commander of the Joint Special Forces and Chair of Qatar Air Sports Committee (QASC) Brig. Gen. Mohammed bin Zayed Al Otaibi, President of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) Col. Nilton Gomes, delegation heads, unit commanders, and guests attended the closing ceremony.
The ceremony featured the Qatari national anthem, a parade of participating teams to the CISM anthem, a precision honor guard display by Qatar's armed forces, and evening aerial formations by Qatari parachutists that drew admiration for their skill and discipline.
In a speech, Commander of the Joint Special Forces and Chair of Qatar Air Sports Committee (QASC) Brig. Gen. Mohammed bin Zayed Al Otaibi expressed gratitude to all delegations for their efforts and praised the spirit of participation, discipline, and commitment to the championship's goals, reflecting CISM's motto: "Friendship through Sport."
At the conclusion of the championship, the CISM 2025 flag was formally lowered to mark the end of the World Military Parachuting Championship (CISM Qatar 2025). Brig. Gen. Al Otaibi handed the flag to President of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), Col. Nilton Gomes, who passed it to a representative of Slovakia, the host of the next edition in 2027.
Commander of the Joint Special Forces and Chair of Qatar Air Sports Committee (QASC) Brig. Gen. Mohammed bin Zayed Al Otaibi praised the honorable results achieved by the national team at the conclusion of the CISM Qatar 2025 World Parachuting Championships, and the remarkable achievements of the Accuracy Target Team, after winning the gold medals for the team and individual events with merit and distinction.
In a press statement, Al Otaibi said that these achievements and gains did not come out of the vacuum, but are the fruit of the support that the Qatar Air Sports Committee receives from the wise leadership, which is keen to provide all means of support for Qatari sports in general and air sports in particular to achieve the best results in all competitions.
He attributed the high technical levels achieved by the Qatar Air Sports Committee to the support of HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Thani, praising all the staff, personnel and officers of the Qatar Air Sports Committee for their good and appreciated efforts and dedication to their work, which contributed to the success of the CISM Qatar 2025 World Parachuting Championship, at a level that is honorable and befits Qatar's status on the world stage.
For his part, President of CISM Col. Nilton Gomes Rolim noted the great success of the 47th World Military Parachuting Championship - Qatar CISM 2025, which was outstanding in all aspects, especially technical and organizational.
Rolim said in a similar statement that the CISM Qatar 2025 Parachuting World Championship was not just a sporting and competitive event, but a meeting place that expresses the cultures of peoples, values and the shared passion for military sports, and that these young men and women deserve all the necessary sporting support.
He added that Qatar organized a model, high-standard, more than wonderful and unprecedented championship, where the 320 military athletes of both genders who represented 30 countries received the best reception and hospitality, surrounded by great generosity and attention, which reflected positively on them and they delivered a good and high-level performance that contributed to the success of the military competition.
For his part, Head of Media Affairs and Chairman of the Tournament's Media Committee Salem Al Fahida congratulated the Qatari champions of the team and individual accuracy landing competitions after they won gold, stressing that the championship was characterized by organizational and technical success, according to the testimony of the participating delegations.
Al Fahida stressed that air sports this year are witnessing an exceptional season on all levels, praising the outstanding performance of all the jumpers in the Qatari national team in all stages of the accuracy rounds, despite the strong competition with the Czech national team. (QNA)
