Opening of New Integrated Elderly Care Clinic at Al-Mashaf Health Center
Doha, November 22 (QNA) - Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), in collaboration with the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), has inaugurated a new Integrated Elderly Care Clinic at Al-Mashaf Health Center, adding a qualitative dimension to the specialized services network aimed at supporting older adults and enhancing their quality of life.
This step is part of the Integrated Elderly Care Program, which operates under the supervision of the center in cooperation with the World Health Organization's Healthy Ageing and Dementia program at Rumailah Hospital.
The Integrated Elderly Care Clinics are managed in partnership with the PHCC.
The program reflects Qatar's commitment to providing comprehensive, person-centered healthcare, ensuring active and independent ageing. Qatar continues to lead as the first country in the Middle East to implement the WHO framework for integrated care for older adults. This model focuses on early detection of health issues, maintaining functional abilities, and improving quality of life. The program aligns with the WHO's Decade of Healthy Ageing 2021-2030 and Qatar's National Health Strategy 2024-2030.
The first Integrated Elderly Care Clinic was launched at Al-Wajba Health Center in April 2023. The program has since expanded with similar clinics at Rawdat Al-Khail, Leabaib, Qatar University, and now Al-Mashaf Health Center, enhancing access to elderly care services close to residents' communities.
The clinics provide evidence-based health assessments through a multidisciplinary team, covering memory and cognition, balance and mobility, nutrition, vision and hearing, and mental health. The scope of assessments is expanding to include urinary health, social support, and caregiver well-being, providing a comprehensive view of the patient's health and family context.
From January 2024 to October 2025, the Integrated Elderly Care Clinics across the five centers conducted over 2,074 medical assessments, enabling early interventions and follow-up for hundreds of cases. These evaluations highlighted critical health needs related to cognition and mobility, underscoring the importance of early detection and preventive care for older adults.
The opening of the new clinic at Al-Mashaf Health Center exemplifies Qatar's commitment to building a sustainable healthcare model that integrates hospital expertise, primary care services, and community support, ensuring coordinated, proactive, and compassionate care that enhances independence and promotes the health of older adults for years to come.
