NHRC Commemorates Qatari Human Rights Day, Honors Flagship Institutions
Doha, November 11 (QNA) - The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) commemorated Qatari Human Rights Day on Tuesday.
This event is observed annually on Nov. 11, marking the 23rd anniversary of this milestone, which was first observed in 2002 with the establishment of NHRC.
The ceremony was attended by officials from partner institutions of NHRC, who were paid tribute for their enduring contributions to advancing the human rights pathway in the State of Qatar, and for initiatives that played a pivotal role in driving the nation’s human rights work forward.
HE Chairperson of NHRC Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah said this year's celebration is marked by honoring a wide swath of entities and personalities whose efforts have had good impacts on lending impetus to the NHRC's path. She pointed out that this gesture is a tribute of gratitude to those who give selflessly.
HE Al Attiyah underscored the importance of forging partnerships and elevating their heights with all stakeholders, in recognition of the roles undertaken by national human rights institutions that promote a bridge of communication among all the nation's actors.
The committee has deepened an incredible experience and emerged as a vital role model in pursuing consequential global initiatives and convening conferences, forums, and symposia to discuss impactful universal challenges facing human rights. It is also committed to maintaining rolling contributions to the sessions held by UN Human Rights Council, UNGA meetings, as well as active participation in multilateral conferences, Al Attiyah underlined.
Al Attiyah underscored that the committee touts the global efforts and initiatives undertaken by the prudent leadership, inspiring Qatar's effective role in human rights promotion and protection at home and abroad, in addition to spearheading diplomatic efforts meant for ending conflicts through peaceful means, alongside the leadership's critical humanitarian role in relief and providing life-saving aid in the areas of food, health, education, and shelter, as well as other life essentials in the areas battered by natural disasters and armed conflicts.
For his part, CEO of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work Rashid Mohammed Al Hamda Al Naimi affirmed that honoring the foundation and its centres in this flagship event underscores the recognition of the national energized efforts in protecting the rights of those who should have the priority to care and strengthen their engagement in comprehensive social development.
Through operating in unison with its professional centres, the foundation is committed to diligently working to cement the principles of social justice and human dignity through outstanding initiatives and programs that materialize Qatar's mission in human empowerment and building a tight-knit unified community, Al Naimi added.
HE Secretary-General of NHRC Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali highlighted the committee's efforts throughout 2025, projecting its key milestones and projects, which have been twofold: advancing its infrastructure and activities.
He noted that throughout the past year, NHRC had embarked on developing its infrastructure through creating five new units, chiefly the Strategic Planning and Quality, Protection of Women’s Rights, Protection of Children’s Rights, Protection of Persons with Disabilities’ Rights, and Protection of the Rights of Seniors.
