Beirut, October 3 (QNA) - The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) confirmed that the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) dropped bombs near its personnel in southern Lebanon, calling for an end to similar attacks.

UNIFIL reported in a statement Friday that its personnel heard, in two different locations, the sound of a bomb exploding 500 meters away. "Moments later, a drone was seen flying, followed by an explosion at a distance of 30 to 40 meters. About 20 minutes later, another drone was spotted dropping a bomb that exploded 20 meters away," the statement said. It noted that its forces were working alongside the Lebanese Army at the time to provide protection for civilian workers in the town of Maroun al Ras, southern Lebanon, where they were "clearing rubble resulting from the destruction of homes due to the war."

The UNIFIL called on the Israeli occupation army to immediately cease any attacks against or near peacekeepers, as well as against Lebanese civilians and soldiers. The force emphasized that any attack on peacekeepers or obstruction of their assigned tasks demonstrates disregard for the safety and security of UNIFIL and Lebanese Armed Forces personnel, and for the stability they seek to establish in southern Lebanon.

In its statement, the force emphasized that these actions constitute a serious violation of Security Council Resolution 1701.

Last month, the UN force announced that Israeli drones threw four grenades near its personnel "who were working to remove roadblocks blocking access to a UN position" in southern Lebanon. (QNA)
