Ministry of Municipality Marks World Food Day with Nationwide Awareness Campaign
Doha, October 16 (QNA) - The Ministry of Municipality celebrated World Food Day, observed annually on October 16, by organizing educational and awareness activities across several municipalities.
The initiative reflects the Ministry's ongoing efforts to enhance food security and ensure safe, healthy, and sustainable nutrition for all.
As part of the celebration, Doha Municipality, represented by the Health Control Section, held an educational workshop on food safety, presented by Dr. Ahmed Al Bajouri.
The session addressed concepts of food defense, key challenges and risks to food safety, and reviewed approved inspection and control mechanisms.
Director of Municipal Control at Doha Municipality Majed Al Hajri affirmed that the workshop aligns with the Ministry's commitment to applying the highest food safety standards. He highlighted the Ministry's achievements in developing control systems, adopting advanced technologies, and its prominent role during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Head of the Health Control Section Najla Al Hail noted that the workshop served as a vital platform for exchanging expertise and exploring global best practices in food defense.
She reiterated the municipality's ongoing dedication to consumer protection and strengthening national food security in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
In parallel, Al Daayen Municipality hosted an awareness event at Simaisma Resort focusing on food sourcing, selecting fresh products, and reducing food waste through reuse or composting. The event also promoted home gardening and sustainable dietary habits.
The Ministry of Public Health, represented by the Health Promotion Department, participated by offering body assessments and nutritional advice.
The Qur'anic Botanical Garden distributed herbal seedlings such as basil and thyme to encourage home cultivation. The Hifz Al Naema Society showcased its efforts in minimizing food waste and redistributing surplus food.
During the event, the Health Control Section of Al Daayen Municipality was honored for its contributions to food safety. Students from Al Awsaj Academy and Qatar University's College of Health Sciences also took part by presenting educational activities and programs.
Additionally, Al Rayyan Municipality held a workshop to raise staff awareness about safe and sustainable food practices. Umm Salal Municipality, through its Health Control Section, organized a session on the principles of food health safety for students of Qatar Leadership Academy, led by Dr. Imad Youssef.
The workshop emphasized the importance of proper nutrition and methods to prevent food poisoning, contributing to the spread of food safety culture in the community.
Concluding the events, the Ministry of Municipality reaffirmed its commitment to promoting nutritional and health awareness and developing sustainable strategies to ensure safe and healthy food for all, in support of the Sustainable Development Goals and Qatar National Vision 2030. (QNA)
