Cairo, October 11 (QNA) - Egypt unveiled on Saturday that an international summit, dubbed the "Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit", is set to convene on Monday, co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, with the participation of leaders from over 20 countries.

The summit aims to end the warfare in the Gaza Strip, strengthen efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East, and open a new chapter of regional security, the Egyptian Presidency said in a statement.

The statement added that the summit comes as part of the vision of US President Donald Trump to achieve peace in the region, along with his steadfast endeavor to end conflicts worldwide.

Convening this event follows a ceasefire deal reached in the Gaza Strip between the Hamas movement and Israel last Wednesday, based on the peace plan laid out by the US.

The first phase of this plan took effect on Friday and includes the cessation of hostilities, the Israeli occupation army's pullback, the exchange and release of hostages and prisoners, and the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid into the enclave.

The approval of the first phase came following four days of indirect negotiations between the two parties in Sharm El Sheikh, with the engagement of mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkiye, under US supervision. (QNA)
