Ankara, October 11 (QNA) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed hope Saturday that the newly brokered ceasefire in Gaza would lead to lasting peace, stability, and security across the Palestinian territories.

Speaking at a party meeting in Rize province in northeastern Turkiye, Erdogan urged the Israeli entity to honor the agreement and end its aggressive policies, which threaten regional stability.

Turkiye will continue to support a just peace in Gaza, Erdogan said, thanking international leaders who backed the ceasefire process. He emphasized the importance of upholding the deal and called on Israeli occupation government to abide by its commitments and halt its hostile actions.

Erdogan also called for the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, reiterating that a two-state solution is the key to lasting peace in the region.

The ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel went into effect Friday at noon, marking the start of a US-backed plan that includes a halt to hostilities, a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces, a mutual release of detainees, and immediate humanitarian access to the enclave.

The deal's first phase was approved following four days of indirect negotiations in Egypt's Sharm El-Sheikh, with mediation by Qatar, Egypt, and Turkiye under U.S. supervision. (QNA)
