Doha, October 01 (QNA) - The ICOM Regional Alliance of Arab Countries has announced its slate of candidates for the 2025–2028 term, naming Mohammed Saad Al Rumaihi, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Museums (QM), as a nominee for president. Elections will be held on Nov. 13, 2025, during the 27th General Conference of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in Dubai, under the theme "The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities."

The candidacy highlights Qatar Museums' pioneering role in heritage preservation, Arab and international cooperation, and cultural diplomacy, affirming the nation's regional and global leadership in the museum sector and in safeguarding cultural identity.

Commenting on the announcement, Mohammed Saad Al Rumaihi said: "My nomination for the presidency of the ICOM Regional Alliance of Arab Countries stems from a deep belief in the vital role of museums as educational, societal, and humanitarian institutions. Museums foster cultural dialogue, preserve heritage, and nurture innovation and creativity. At Qatar Museums, we work to build strong partnerships between Arab museums and their counterparts worldwide, promoting sustainable development and reinforcing our shared cultural identity."

The ICOM Regional Alliance of Arab Countries represents 11 member nations and forms part of ICOM, the world's largest network of museums and museum professionals, encompassing more than 50,000 members globally. The upcoming elections are expected to enhance knowledge exchange, strengthen institutional capacities, and expand collaboration among Arab museum institutions, advancing the preservation and promotion of culture and heritage across the region and beyond.

This year, Qatar Museums is celebrating its 20th anniversary. This milestone year is marked by Evolution Nation, an 18-month campaign honouring Qatar's cultural journey, from the founding of the National Museum to the thriving ecosystem of institutions we proudly represent today. Curated by Qatar Creates, the national movement positioning Qatar as a global hub for art, culture, and creativity, Evolution Nation highlights both the nation's cultural milestones and its aspirations for the future.
