Doha, September 21 (QNA) - The annual meetings of the United Nations General Assembly are a major global platform that brings together leaders and representatives of Member States to discuss pressing international issues, make decisions, and exchange views on international peace and security, human rights, and sustainable development.
Given its importance, HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani is keen to participate annually at the international forum, which asserts the State of Qatar's firm positions and commitment to supporting global security and peace, working together for the development and well-being of all peoples, and strengthening international cooperation to confront current challenges.
His Highness' impressive presence at this global event, which is considered an international summit par excellence, reflects Qatar's prestigious position on the international stage, its active role in supporting dialogue, mediation, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts, as well as its fruitful partnerships with the international community in various political, economic, developmental, and humanitarian fields.
Qatar proved its role as a successful mediator in several regional and international conflicts, such as its mediation in Darfur, the conflict in Sudan, and the peace process in Afghanistan, which Doha hosted. It also mediated the 2008 Doha Agreement on Lebanon, the border dispute resolution between Djibouti and Eritrea, and its tireless efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip. Qatar continues its ongoing support for development projects in developing countries through institutions such as the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, as well as its contribution to enhancing food security through strategic investments in the agriculture and global food security sectors, reflecting its practical and effective commitment to sustainable development and peace for peoples.
In this context, a number of officials, academics, and political analysts, in statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA) affirmed that the regular participation of HH the Amir in the annual sessions of the UN General Assembly embodies the State of Qatar's unwavering commitment to strengthening its effective diplomatic presence on the international stage and its keenness to deliver its political messages from the highest multilateral platform.
They stressed that His Highness' regular attendance at UN meetings reflects Qatar's balanced strategy based on active diplomacy and constructive neutrality, which has enabled the country to play the role of a reliable international mediator. They referred to HH the Amir's speeches, which carried clear messages calling for diplomatic solutions and de-escalation, support for the Palestinian cause, and enhanced international cooperation to confront global challenges. This reflects Qatar's comprehensive vision, which combines support for peace and development issues, rejection of military escalation, and emphasis on sustainable peaceful solutions to conflicts.
They expect Qatar to continue strengthening its global standing through its strong commitment to international law and UN principles, leveraging its soft power to achieve security and stability, and continuing its support for developing countries and development issues, with a focus on the Palestinian cause as a central issue in its foreign policy.
In this context, HE President of the 66th Session of the United Nationals General Assembly and former High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations Nassir bin Abdulaziz Al Nasser affirmed that Qatar plays a pivotal role within the UN system and has become a key player in international peace and development issues.
His Excellency pointed out that the speeches of HH the Amir before the UN General Assembly were comprehensive and clear, embodying Qatar's enduring commitment to peace and strengthening international cooperation, reflecting its influential presence on various global issues.
He added that HH the Amir's speeches conveyed extremely important messages in light of current international challenges, from escalating conflicts and the repercussions of climate change to ongoing food and health security crises. He emphasized that the most prominent of these messages is the call for de-escalation, adherence to preventive diplomatic solutions, and rejection of the logic of force in resolving conflicts, especially in regions experiencing escalating crises and conflicts.
HE also said that the contents of HH the Amir's messages to the General Assembly confirm Qatar's deep belief in the importance of multilateral action and strengthening the role of the UN as a comprehensive platform for achieving peace and sustainable development, alongside its continuous commitment to supporting the issues of the developing world, particularly in the areas of development, education, and youth empowerment, which are priorities further reinforced by Qatar through pioneering national initiatives and institutions.
