UK, Turkiye Sign New Security and Defense Agreement
London, July 9 (QNA) - The United Kingdom and Turkiye signed a new security and defense partnership today on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara to expand bilateral cooperation in response to the rapidly evolving security environment across the Euro-Atlantic region.
In a statement, the UK Prime Minister's Office said the new partnership reflects the two countries' shared determination to strengthen cooperation, their commitment to mutual defense, and their support for the objectives and principles of the North Atlantic Treaty.
The statement said the agreement will expand cooperation by deepening consultations through new mechanisms covering the political and military dimensions of security and defense policy.
These include deterrence and defense, military cooperation, defense industries and technology, cybersecurity, countering hybrid threats, counterterrorism, strengthening resilience and civil preparedness, and cooperation in the field of space.
The two sides also reaffirmed their commitment to playing a greater role in strengthening Europe's security, increasing their defense spending, and enhancing military cooperation. (QNA)
