Baghdad, April 07 (QNA) - Iraq has shot down a drone attack that attempted to target an airbase in the country's west, with no casualties or material damage reported, the defense ministry said.

A defense ministry statement on Tuesday said the air defense units had successfully intercepted an unidentified drone before striking a radar system at Ain Al Asad airbase in the western province of Anbar.

The statement added that the interception prevented any explosion and that specialist engineering teams were deployed to the site to secure and remove the wreckage, following established technical and security procedures.

The ministry emphasized that Ain Al Asad is a fully Iraqi-operated base, with all personnel, formations and military equipment under national control.

It warned that such attacks threaten national interests and could hinder ongoing efforts to modernize the country's armed forces. (QNA)
