Washington, August 04 (QNA) - WhatsApp said it was working to restore access to a number of user accounts after a technical glitch unexpectedly placed them under review, temporarily preventing some users from accessing the messaging service.

Users across several countries reported on X and Threads that their accounts had been unexpectedly placed under review, leaving them unable to use the Meta-owned messaging platform. Affected users were shown a message stating that their account activity and device information were being reviewed to verify compliance with WhatsApp's terms of service. 

TechCrunch reported that Meta acknowledged the issue and said it was working to restore affected accounts, but did not disclose the cause of the glitch or whether it was limited to specific regions. The company added that account reviews can occasionally be triggered by its systems designed to detect abuse and that steps had been taken to reinstate affected users. 

WhatsApp has more than 3 billion monthly active users worldwide, making any disruption to the service capable of affecting a large number of users. (QNA)
