Athens, August 31 (QNA) - Lebanese President, Joseph Aoun said that his country's stability is essential to the stability of Europe, warning that instability in Lebanon would have wider regional repercussions.

This came during a summit that took place in Athens on Monday, bringing the Lebanese President together with his Greek counterpart, Constantine Tassoulas.

"We are advocates of peace and are determined to end the state of hostility with Israel," said Aoun, stressing that diplomacy is the best solution, not military force.

The Lebanese President further stated,"Lebanon has lived through the tragedies of wars, and the time has come for it to rest."

The framework agreement signed between Lebanon and Israel under US sponsorship could not be implemented by one side alone, affirmed Aoun, adding, "It must be implemented by both sides, not selectively, but in full."

The Lebanese President also asked Greece to assist in efforts to ensure the implementation of the framework agreement.

During Aoun's visit to Greece, the Lebanese President had met with Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who announced that the two countries seek to elevate their relations to a strategic partnership.

Mitsotakis affirmed Greece's support for Lebanon's sovereignty, independence, and unity, as well as its continued support for the Lebanese Army and assistance with reconstruction efforts. (QNA)
