Baghdad, March 31 (QNA) - The Security Media Cell (SMC) in Iraq announced Tuesday that a drone crashed in the West Qurna-1 oilfield in Basra Governorate, and a rocket struck a house in Al-Tharthar in Anbar Governorate, without either exploding, noting that neither incident resulted in any human casualties.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the head of the Security Media Cell, Lieutenant General Saad Maan, stated: "A drone fell in an open desert area within the West Qurna-1 oil field in Basra Governorate without exploding, and the incident did not result in any material damage or human injuries."
He also said that a rocket landed on a house in the Al-Tharthar area in Anbar Governorate, adding that the incident did not result in any human injuries.
Iraqi security forces also thwarted attempts today to carry out attacks using explosive-laden drones in Diyala province northeast of Baghdad, without any losses reported.
An Iraqi security source further stated that air defenses of the international coalition intercepted an unidentified drone in the skies over Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, amid an unprecedented military escalation in the region.
The source said that defense systems successfully intercepted the drone, which was heading toward Erbil International Airport, and destroyed it. The debris fell in an open area, causing limited material damage without any human casualties. (QNA)
