Doha, October 29 (QNA) - Qatar has begun work to redevelop the Qatar National Theater, with plans to modernize its facilities, upgrade technical capabilities and improve safety and operational efficiency.

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) announced the project on Thursday, saying it would involve rebuilding and restoring parts of the theater, upgrading audio-visual systems and installing modern stage equipment.

The improvements are intended to bring the venue in line with the latest standards and technologies used in contemporary theater design and operation, strengthening its ability to host artistic performances and cultural events.

According to Ashghal, specialist engineering studies and assessments of the building identified the need to rebuild certain sections to meet safety, sustainability and operational efficiency requirements.

The authority said the redevelopment would preserve the theater’s distinctive architectural character and aesthetic features, which have become part of Qatar's cultural heritage over several decades.

Project engineer Faisal Al Qahtani said the redevelopment reflected Ashghal's commitment to improving the country's cultural infrastructure and facilities.

He said the project aimed to modernize the theater’s facilities and equipment in line with the latest technical standards, while ensuring it could accommodate a range of artistic and cultural performances.

Al Qahtani described the Qatar National Theater as one of the country's prominent cultural landmarks, highlighting its longstanding role in hosting events and performances that have contributed to Qatar's artistic and cultural life.

The redevelopment forms part of wider efforts to strengthen Qatar's cultural infrastructure and prepare venues to host future events.

The authority said the upgraded facilities would support the continued growth of the country's cultural scene while maintaining the theater’s architectural identity and cultural significance. (QNA)
