Geneva, April 29 (QNA) - The State of Qatar participated in the annual Council meeting of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), held in Geneva, on a Gulf initiative addressing the impact of targeting civilian ICT infrastructure in GCC states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and its regional and global implications.

Qatar was represented by Second Secretary of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the UN Office in Geneva, Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Mansoori.

In his remarks, Al Mansoori affirmed Qatar's support for the statement delivered by the sisterly United Arab Emirates on behalf of the GCC states and Jordan, expressing deep concern over the unjustified targeting of telecommunications infrastructure in several countries as a result of Iranian attacks.

He stressed that attacks on civilian infrastructure essential to daily life, such as ICT facilities, constitute harmful interference in violation of the ITU Constitution and relevant regulations.

He noted that such actions have significant consequences, including immediate operational disruptions and far-reaching strategic and economic impacts, expressing hope that the Council and its members will consider the issue by supporting the joint contribution submitted by the GCC states and Jordan.
