Doha, June 27 (QNA) - Al Wakrah Sports Club announced the end of Swedish coach Poya Asbaghi’s contract with the club’s first football team.

In a statement issued today, the club clarified that the 39-year-old Swedish coach has completed his tenure with the first team, expressing gratitude for his efforts during his time in charge.

Asbaghi had taken over as head coach of Al Wakrah last January, arriving from Al Rayyan, whom he led at the beginning of the same season.

He had succeeded Portuguese coach Leonardo Jardim, who was dismissed in September 2024 and replaced by Younes Ali. Asbaghi had also coached Al Shamal in the previous 2023-2024 season.

Al Wakrah’s management is now aiming for a strong return in the upcoming 2025-2026 domestic league season, which is set to begin on Aug. 14, after the team finished eighth in the 2024-2025 season with 25 points, just two points behind Al Shahaniya in seventh place. (QNA)
