Qatar University Enhances Joint Cooperation with NHRC

Doha, March 27 (QNA) - Qatar University and the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) have signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance mutual cooperation in the field of scientific research related to human rights and areas of common interest.
Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies Dr. Mariam Al Ali Al Maadeed and Vice-Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari, signed the memorandum.
Both parties affirmed that the memorandum would contribute to enhancing communication, knowledge exchange, practical and cognitive experiences between the university and the committee, thus promoting scientific research and development in the field of human rights. Additionally, it aims to strengthen coordination and mutual cooperation in organizing conferences, seminars, workshops, training courses, and joint discussions on agreed-upon topics. Moreover, it includes implementing joint programs in the fields of scientific research and postgraduate studies.
Dr. Mariam Al Ali Al Maadeed said that this collaboration represents a significant step towards building a civil society characterized by justice, equality, and the protection of human rights for all its members. She emphasized that the memorandum reflects the commitment of the university and the committee to promote human rights culture and joint work to achieve its goals.
Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari pointed out the importance of the memorandum in establishing scientific and research cooperation between Qatar University and the National Human Rights Committee, particularly in civil, political, economic, social, environmental rights mentioned in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the two International Covenants on Human Rights. He highlighted that cooperation between the two parties will be through exchanging information and experiences to enhance scientific and research cooperation related to human rights, such as women's rights, children's rights, the rights of the elderly, persons with disabilities, and the right to a healthy environment in Qatar and other rights. Furthermore, he mentioned that the cooperation includes developing a program for scientific and refereed research grants, announcing and providing financial and administrative support for winning grants, and developing human rights events by launching competitions and awards for researchers in various human rights fields to raise awareness of them in national, regional, and international forums. He added that celebrations will be organized to announce the winners and awards for refereed research and studies on public human rights occasions such as the celebration of Arab or international human rights, among others.
