Japanese Shares Close Higher

Tokyo, August 26 (QNA) - Japanese shares closed Wednesday's trading session higher, ahead of the release of results from Nvidia, the leading artificial intelligence company, and the release of US inflation data, which could provide indications regarding the path of interest rates by the Federal Reserve.
The Nikkei index rose 0.62 percent to close at 66,262.16 points, while the broader Topix index gained 0.42 percent to 4,111.02 points.
Shares of SoftBank Group, a major investor in the field of AI, rose 1.49 percent.
Mitsubishi Materials shares led the gainers on the Nikkei index, rising 5.95 percent, followed by Tokyo Electric Power shares, which gained 3.96 percent, and then Advantest, which rose 3.63 percent.
On the other hand, SUMCO shares led the decliners, falling 3.90 percent, followed by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha shares, which declined 3.36 percent, and then Nippon Yusen shares, which lost 2.48 percent. (QNA)
