Iraqi President Stresses Importance of Halting Regional Escalation
Baghdad, July 26 (QNA) - Iraqi President Nizar Amidi met Sunday with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam during his visit to Iraq.
Amidi stressed the importance of ceasing escalation in the region and upholding diplomacy to address the crises, thereby helping strengthen security and stability both on the regional and global stages.
A statement by the Iraqi Presidency affirmed that both sides discussed deepening the bilateral relationship and the recent regional developments.
In addition, Amidi said the current phase requires concerted efforts to confront challenges, reaffirming that Iraq supports Lebanon's security, as well as political and economic stability.
National consensus matters most in this context, Amidi added, reemphasizing the need to boost state institutions so as to safeguard Lebanon's sovereignty and unity.
For his part, Nawaf Salam stressed that Lebanon considers Iraq a pivotal Arab partner, asserting that his government looks forward to expanding areas of cooperation and carrying out joint projects and programs.
He praised Iraq's supportive positions in promoting security and stability in Lebanon. (QNA)
