Cairo, September 25 (QNA) - The Global Carbon Council (GCC) participated in the 41st Meeting of the Arab Negotiating Group on Climate Change, held over two days at the headquarters of the Arab League General Secretariat in Cairo.
During the meeting, GCC Founding Chairman, Dr. Yousef bin Mohammed Alhorr, highlighted the council's expertise in carbon markets and in evaluating emission-reduction projects across various sectors. He also reviewed projects registered under the program from different Arab countries and their positive impacts on environmental sustainability and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
The meeting was attended by representatives from Arab countries, including officials from ministries responsible for climate change and national focal points for the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, alongside representatives of Arab organizations.
Discussions covered key climate topics, including the Arab States' strategy for climate action financing 2022–2030, a proposal to establish an Arab center for climate change and sustainable finance, the Arab Action Plan on Climate Issues, and preparations for the upcoming COP30 conference, scheduled to take place in Belem, Brazil, from November 10 to 21.
In this context, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Economic Affairs Sector at the Arab League, Ambassador Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al Malki, stated in a press release that the meeting underscores the Arab League's commitment to continued coordination among member states and to presenting a unified Arab position on issues raised during climate negotiations.
The Global Carbon Council, affiliated with the Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD), is the first international carbon credit issuance program based in the Global South. It supports the transition to a low-carbon future by issuing carbon credits for greenhouse gas emission reduction projects worldwide. (QNA)
