Doha, September 24 (QNA) - The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra will present a concert titled "Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Overture" on Saturday at the Opera House of the Cultural Village Foundation - Katara, featuring a programme of works by renowned composers Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Dmitri Shostakovich.
The concert will be conducted by acclaimed Egyptian maestro Nader Abbasi, and will take audiences on a musical journey spanning dramatic intensity, sweeping emotion and introspective reflection.
The evening will open with Tchaikovsky's Polonaise from Eugene Onegin, Op. 24, an energetic orchestral work that evokes the grandeur and atmosphere of 19th-century Russia.
The orchestra will then perform Tchaikovsky's "Romeo and Juliet: Fantasy Overture", one of the composer's best-known works and a powerful musical interpretation of William Shakespeare's tragic tale of love. The piece captures the passion, conflict and tragedy of the story through its sweeping melodies and dramatic orchestration.
Following the interval, the programme will continue with Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 6 in B Minor, Op. 54. The symphony opens with a haunting and introspective movement before shifting into two energetic and sharply contrasting movements, highlighting the composer's distinctive wit, musical brilliance and emotional complexity.
Nader Abbasi is regarded as one of the prominent musicians in the Arab world, with a diverse career as an orchestral conductor, composer, singer and bassoonist. Since beginning his conducting career in 2002 with a production of Giuseppe Verdi's Aida, Abbasi has conducted numerous symphony orchestras and opera productions across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
